Baby Delivered In Hospital Parking Lot
When babies decide to arrive, they don't care where they are...
A baby boy who was anxious to leave his mother’s womb was born in a parking lot outside Highlands Hospital in Connellsville, Pa., Wednesday.
Mason Matthew Parkinson, who weighed in at 5-pounds, 15-ounces, was delivered into his mother’s sweatpants, according to The Daily Courier.
"It happened so fast," mother Rebecca Johnson told the newspaper. "I didn't know what happened until he was in my pant leg."
Johnson was on her way to The Uniontown Hospital but icy road conditions severely delayed her arrival. She asked her mother, who was driving the car, to stop at Highlands about an hour after leaving.
"I was having contractions on the way to Uniontown, but I told them to pull into Highlands or I was going to have the baby in the car," Johnson said.
When the car arrived at Highlands and Johnson was in labor, her sister and mother left the car to fetch a doctor and a wheelchair. But they didn't get back in time and little Mason was born at 8:55 a.m. after Johnson experienced "a really bad contraction."
About 30 minutes later in the hospital, both Johnson and her newborn son Mason were given a clean bill of health.
