RECALL: Children's Necklaces Due to Lead Poisoning Hazard

Another Day, another children's Lead Poisoning Hazard recall. I am starting to wonder if anyone is checking the crap that is being sold to our children.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Butterfly Necklaces

Units: About 19,000

Importer: GeoCentral, of Napa, Calif.

Hazard: The metal clasp on the necklace contains high levels of lead. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

Description: The recalled necklaces consist of a multi-colored butterfly pendant on a multi-colored seed bead 16-inch necklace. The product’s packaging includes a white hang card with “GeoJewelry” printed on the front underneath “GeoCentral.”

Sold at: Souvenir and gift stores nationwide from January 2006 through May 2007 for about $2.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the recalled jewelry away from children and return them to store where purchased for a full refund or contact GeoCentral for information on how to obtain a full refund.
