Rare New Brunswick Quads Starting To Go Home
One of the rare quads born in New Brunswick is scheduled to go home today after spending 8 weeks in hospital growing and getting stronger.
Doctors were shocked when the two eggs they implanted into Giuliana Stier both split, creating two sets of identical twins.
Abigail Lidia, Eli Rocco, Cara Ella and Dominic James arrived in Janurary, in that order, 11 weeks early, weighing just under 2 pounds, 6 ounces.
Cara Ella will be first to come home today, having met the requirements to leave the hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). At 4 pounds, 9 ounces, she is gaining weight comfortably, bottle-feeds consistently, and maintains her body temperature on her own.Related Articles:The others are still sleeping in their own individual "Isolette" incubator — a small, enclosed chamber that regulates body temperature until their bodies can do it. Each baby is also wired up to medical sensors for nurses' quick attention when required.
The couple just moved to a two-bedroom condo in Glen Gardner, but they figure they have a few years before worrying about moving to bigger quarters. For now, they're enjoying the surprise, and hoping all four babies will get to come home and be together by the time of their original due date of April 12.
