Pirate's Cog Bedroom
German toy company Haba never lets me down when I am looking for something unique and exciting. They are well known for their cool kids toys and fun kids spaces. Because we are currently in the market for a bedroom set for our son, I have been looking everywhere for something different. I was pretty excited when I found this set, until I realized that my three-year-old wouldn't get any sleep with this cool Pirate's ship attached to his wall.

Pregnant Teacher Loses Her Job
A federal judge in New York has ruled that a Seventh-Day Adventist school has the right to fire a teacher who became pregnant out of wedlock.
While it's ideal to have two parents who are married and committed to one another raising a family together, many families do just as well even though mom and dad aren't married. For all we know, this teacher could be in a relationship with someone that she has been with for years.... Labels: Jewel Redhead, pregnancy |
More of The McConaughey Family In OK Magazine
The couple shared personal photos taken just minutes after he was born and talked about how their lives have changed now that he is here. In true Matthew McConaughey style, the interview is candid and honest. He doesn't beat around the bush and I love it. One of my favorite parts is when the interviewer asks what the star's first words were to his son. Here is his response:
I had him for the first 15 minutes because they had to take care of Camila. I said, "Come here little man." I saw the pecker and thought we'd been right all along about him being a boy. Then I brought him over to her. Labels: Camila Alves, Celebrity Babies, Levi Alves McConaughey, Matthew McConaughey, OK Magazine |

Blueberry's Minky Pocket Diapers Please Mommy and Baby!
Because I have been using cloth diapers for 2 years now, it takes a lot to impress me. Blueberry has done a few things that make their diaper stand out. The first thing that struck me was the modern, fashionable prints that are not just soft, but functional. When my diapers arrived I had to double check for myself that they didn't need to be covered. It is hard to believe that a diaper this cute protects against leaks - but it does! Practical parents who don't want to have to buy a new stack of diaper every time their child hits a growth spurt will like Blueberry's Minky Pocket Diapers because they are adjustable as your child grows. The snaps on the front can be adjusted up or down to fit a small, medium or large child. I liked how easy they washed up. In order for them to be the most absorbent, they will need to be washed five or six times, which is standard for any cloth diaper. Some nice features:

Same Sex Couple Welcomes Quads Or Twins By Each Mom
Exhausted after trying to get pregnant for 3 years, Martha suggested that they should both have eggs implanted. In order for it all to work, both had to take medication to make sure they were on the same cycle. After trying 5 times to pregnant(at $15,000 per try), the ladies were shocked to find out that this time they were BOTH expecting. Even though they knew that 2 embryos had been implanted, they didn't ever believe that they would end up with 4 babies. During the three month ultrasound the women discovered Martha was expecting twins - and a month later they were shocked to find Karen was too. Martha, 38, gave birth first to babies Sophia and Alex, and Karen gave birth 22 hours later to their siblings Andrew and Sienna. They didn't expect they would give birth on the same date - let alone 22 hours apart at different hospitals. Related Articles:

A Modern Twist On A Classic Bunk Bed
We are currently looking for a new bed for our son and a bunk bed is on our list. I came across this set today and wondered if it was practical for the average child. I like that it has a larger bed on bottom and that it has an unusual shape, which can add some flair to a boring room. I don't, however, like that the stairs don't lead to an open area for the kids to get into bed. It seems like an accident waiting to happen. Soleil Moon Frye in Baby Couture
The hands-on mom to two beautiful girls splits her time between motherhood and the eco-friendly boutique she co-owns in Los Angeles called, “The Little Seed.”
Here are some highlights of the interview: On Demi being her birthcoach for both pregnancies:
She is one of the most incredible birthing coaches in the universe. She has a real gift. She is one of the people you want holding your hand when you’re bringing a baby into the world, and I’ve been blessed with an incredible group of family and friends both times. On the difference between her two pregnancies:
Both were incredible. During my pregnancy with Poet, I was reading every step of the way—”What To Expect When You’re Expecting,” and other pregnancy books—I had music on my belly, and I think I called my doctor every single day. Ha ha! With Jagger, I was so busy running after Poet and opening the store, that I started having contractions two months before my due date. Why she started Little Seed: When I had Poet, and my partner Paige [Tolmach] had her son Jackson, it felt like our eyes were opened to the world for the first time. When you have kids, your perspective changes so much. We both had so many questions about parenthood, and what was healthy for our children. We spent hundreds of hours searching for organic alternatives that were safe and non-toxic, and we realized there wasn’t really a safe haven for families to go to. We knew that if we were feeling this way, there must be millions of other people feeling the same way, so we created ”The Little Seed.” For the rest of the interview and many more pictures please pick up a copy of Baby Couture, on stands now.

Charlotte Church and Gavin Henson Share Ruby's Christening
The event, which was low key, was attended by just 20 friends and family. During an interview, that took place before the christening, the couple spoke about expecting baby #2, pregnancy cravings and Ruby. Here are some highlights: To Gavin: Were you shocked to find out baby #2 way on the way?
A little bit. We didn't plan for it to happen, but I am really glad it did. We like being young parents, so if we're planning on having quite a few then we needed to be started!Pregnancy Cravings?
Now that Ruby is Nine Months old, how is she doing?
How do you think that you'll cope with two really young children? C - All we can hope for is we have another one like Ruby. G - When Charlotte was pregnant with Ruby, everyone was say your life's going t0 change, it's going to be hard, but it's been Brilliant. Now they're saying: "Two under the age of two - it's going to be even harder." I guess we'll have to see. Labels: Celebrity Babies, Charlotte Church, Gavin Henson, Ruby Megan Henson |

Identical Twins Marry, Give Birth To Identical Twins
When identical twin sisters Diane and Darlene Nettemeier met identical twin brothers Craig and Mark Sanders a decade ago, they could never have guessed just how much of their lives would be based around perfect sets of two. Not only did the two identical sets of twins get married at the same time(officially "quarternary marriages"), they built a pair of homes, side by side. Soon afterwards, despite a million-to-one odds, Diane and Craig went on to have identical twins of their own - Colby and Brady, now seven. Craziness!! The amazing part about all this is that identical twins don't run in the family, they are completely spontaneous. So, for a and identical twin couple to have identical twins is just a ridiculous set of odds, not genetics.

Swedish Company Pulls 'Baby Bikini' Over Protests
The bikinis were pulled from stores after children's and women's groups complained that the revealing swimwear contributed to the sexualization of the bodies of small children, Swedish news agency TT reported Thursday. Ellos representative Per-Olf Gustafsson said, "Ellos is a family company. We do not want anyone taking offense from our assortment. We have erred in this case and we will do our best to ensure that there is no repeat."Why would someone want to put a bikini on their baby? A newborn's skin is so delicate, it should be completely covered when they are in the sun - especially babies who are not old enough to wear sunscreen. Would Your Prefer A Manny Or A Nanny?
This got me to wondering - are male nannies more in demand than their female counterparts? I really hadn't thought of having a 'manny' until last year when a friend of mine who is a busy NYC mommy told me that she had one and her 3 boys loved him. At that time, it made sense to me that she had a guy watching her 3 boys because he could get rough and tumble with them, just like young boys like. But would the same situation work if you had 3 girls? Probably not. According to an article I read last year, 90% of nannies in the U.S. were female, leaving just a meager 10% male. Does that make them more expensive? Here are a few pro's and con's for having a female vs male nanny. Nanny Pros:

Those who have more money than the rest of us may opt for one of each if they one or more child of each sex.

Pregnancy And Heartburn
WebMD reports that one-half of all pregnant women report symptoms of severe heartburn, particularly during their second and third trimesters. Heartburn, also called acid indigestion, is an irritation or burning sensation of the esophagus caused by stomach contents that reflux (comes back up) from the stomach. It is believed that heartburn during pregnancy may occur because of changing hormone levels, which can affect the muscles of the digestive tract and how different foods are tolerated. Pregnancy hormones can cause the lower esophageal sphincter (the muscular valve between the stomach and esophagus) to relax, allowing stomach acids to splash back up into the esophagus. In addition, the enlarged uterus can crowd the abdomen, pushing stomach acids upward. The informative site has some suggestions to prevent or reduce the heartburn:

Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves Introduce Us To Levi
The couple talks to the mag about of the way they handle everything in their lives: easy-going and as a team.
You can see how laid back they are when Matthew talks about Levi's delivery.
"We found a great rhythm. Contractions started kicking in. I sat there with her, right between her legs. We got tribal on it, we danced to it! I was DJ-ing this Brazilian music."Levi arrived on July 7 at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center, weighing a healthy 7 lbs., 4 oz. Matthew tells the magazine that he kept a detailed diary of his and Camila's hospital experience. "I have it all chronicled," he explained. "Becoming a dad is something I've dreamed of doing since I was 10. Becoming a father felt very, very natural. We were jamming! She was sweating. No painkiller, let's go. She just clicked into that gear that only a woman has at a time like this. We'd been up for 40-something hours, and we went from dead tired to a really steadfast, 'Let's handle this… let's stay in the rhythm. Don't let the contraction be more than you.'"Even though the couple planned for a natural birth, in the end it came down to what was safest for both mom and baby. "We ended up having an epidural because, on the large contractions, the umbilical cord was being compressed. They went in and tried the vacuum. This is where I learned — and no one tells you this — but having a baby is a bloody, pukey, sweaty, primeval thing! And I mean that as a beautiful thing. It is wild. But the vacuum didn't work, and the doctor said, 'C-section.' Labels: Camila Alves, Celebrity Babies, Levi Alves McConaughey, Matthew McConaughey |

STUDY: Breast Feeding Releases A Bonding Hormone
The hormone Oxytonin is released into the mother's brain, the same hormone that produces contractions during labor and allows milk to flow from the mammary glands. Studies show the hormone reduces fear and prompts feelings of trust and confidence. When the baby suckles, specialized neurons in the mother's brain release the hormone in intense bursts from the nerve endings. One professor involved in the study says the findings could be used to explain other similar brain activities.
