Whoozit Goes Everywhere Babies Go

Manhattan Toy's Whoozits are a fun loving line made of bright colors and high-contrast patterns.

Each Toy offers many developmental benefits for babies including visual stimulation, Early Motor, Sensory and Independent Play skills.

Hidden noise makers like rattles, squeakers, and crinkle paper spark curiosity, while textured fabrics keep little hands and mouths occupied.

On a recent vacation the Whoozit Pull Musical was a blessing when it kept my son's attention during a boring plane ride. I even passed it to a mom behind me in hopes that it would make her crying baby happy.

Both babies seem to love the combination of the flashing lights and happy faces.

It's officially our 'go-to' toy when nothing else works.

  • Whoozit Activity Spiral
  • Whoozit Water Filled Activity Toy
  • Grabbitz Ball
  • Whoozit Pull Musical
  • Starz Lights & Sounds

Nadya Suleman Signs Reality TV Deal

It's official! Nadya Suleman and her 14 children will be coming to a TV near you!

After weeks of meetings and negotiations, Nadya’s attorney Jeff Czech confirmed that the busy mom signed a deal Thursday night to star in her own reality series.

"[Nadya and the producers] are hoping to have an arrangement whereby several events in the children's lives would be filmed in a documentary series," Czech told Usmagazine.com.

“One of the events in the children's lives might be their first birthday.”

Describing the as-yet untitled show as a “quasi-reality TV series”, Czech said that the production company, Eyeworks, was moving ahead to make a deal with a network.

“They might be several shows aired during a year. There are all kinds of possibilities. It really depends on what the networks want," her lawyer said.

Her lawyer declined to comment on how much Nadya would be getting paid for the deal, citing confidentiality.

“Her television program will not be like the Jon and Kate Plus 8 show,” said Czech. "[Nadya] is looking forward to providing her side of the story."
Nadya is pictured above pushing 4 of the octuplets during a recent outing(May 6th). With a videographer close by to capture every moment for the reality show, the primped and manicured “OctoMom” lumbered down the street with nannies and her other children in tow. At the park, photographers noted that she spent much of her time chatting on her cell phone, fixing her hair and juggling her babies in a rather precarious and careless fashion.

It will be interesting to see how this is edited and which network will pick it up...

12-Ounce Baby Beats Odds Pittsburgh Hospital

Against all odds Taylor Maree arrived by C-section on March 12 weighing just 350 grams, which is almost 12 ounces.

The doctors could hardly believe their eyes.

"When she popped out they were really astounded at how tiny she was," according to the NICU's director, Dr. Jennifer Kloezs.

At birth she was whisked away the second she was born. Her parents only got to see her for maybe two or three seconds before they said they had to get her into intensive care.

Taylor Maree's 23-year-old mom, Brittany Rideout, of Penn Hills, had a host of serious health issues during her pregnancy, including two strokes, a heart attack, lupus and preeclampsia.

It was the lupus attacking the placenta that forced the birth at 26 weeks.

"If you look at one of her parent's wedding rings and put that on her it would fit easily over her entire arm and probably would have fit easily over her entire leg," Kloezs said.

Now, weighing in at a hair over two pounds 14 ounces the amazing baby is just weeks away from going home. She is not on any oxygen and is currently bottle feeding - 2 important hurdles that need to be conquered before a discharge plan is put in place.

She is the tiniest preemie ever to survive at Magee-Women's Hospital. They call her a real life fairy tale "Thumbelina."

Doctors expect her growth to lag behind, maybe for the first couple of years of life - but from everything they can tell developmentally she looks like she's right on track.

We wish this family well. Getting to this point was undoubtedly stressful. Soon they will be able to enjoy her without all of the wires and machines.

Britain's Oldest Mom Welcomes Baby Boy

Congratulations to Elizabeth Adeney, Britain's oldest mom, on the safe arrival of her first baby, a boy, weighing 5lb 3oz.

Both are doing "extremely well" in hospital after Tuesday's caesarean section birth.

Doctors pushed up the delivery after Elizabeth developed a complication.

She becomes the UK's oldest mother by four years, overtaking Patti Farrant who had a son, Jude, at the age of 62 three years ago.

A pal of the new mother said: "Lizzie is absolutely thrilled. This is something she thought might never happen. She can't wait to get home and start her new life with her boy."

The new mom became pregnant after she traveled to Ukraine for IVF treatment as clinics here refuse to treat women over 50.

The wealthy divorcee has reportedly spared no expense in preparing for the baby, having already built a nursery in her $800,000 home in Lidgate, an idyllic village in central England, and hired a live-in nanny.

Rajo Devi became the World’s Oldest Mom After she delivered her first baby last year at 70 year-old. Before that Omkari Panwar, 70, welcomed twins in order to have an heir to the family farm.

Doctors Remove 2lb Tumor From Baby's Face

Doctors in Miami worked quickly minutes after Jordan Jamal Smith was born in March, to remove a 1.8-pound mound of liquid and tissue protruding from the newborn's mouth that covered his eyes and nose, his cheeks and forehead.

During a routine 17 week ultrasound the technician noticed something odd on the screen. The growing fetus inside Kimberly Robinson had an abnormal shape on its face.

''I thought he was sucking his thumb,'' she recalled.
Doctors soon discovered it was a rapidly-growing tumor, which sprouted out of the baby's mouth like a large, inflated balloon. It would soon prevent him from swallowing amniotic fluid, which could cause the expectant mom's uterus to swell and give birth prematurely.

She was told the tumor, an epignathus teratoma, would likely suffocate the baby after birth. If the child was lucky enough to survive -- and he would probably not -- he would likely be mentally disabled. Abortion, doctors told her, would only expedite the inevitable.

Instead, the hopeful mom returned to the hospital, where doctors would insert a six-inch-long needle into her belly to drain a liter of amniotic fluid building up inside her.

On March 25 Dr. Elvire Jacques, a UM obstetrician/gynecologist at Holtz Children's Hospital and her 20-person team of doctors and nurses performed the Caesarean and kept the baby connected to his mother's placenta after birth, while they found a way to get the baby to start breathing, despite the tumor covering the baby's face.

In the last 50 years there have only been 70 similar cases of the rare condition. Of those, most of the babies had suffocated soon after birth.

Seconds after baby Jordan left the womb, he was whisked off by hospital staff. Robinson didn't even catch a glimpse of her son. The baby had no visible face, only a red mound the size of two adult fists.

''Thirty-five percent of his own weight was sitting on his face,'' Younis recalled.
When the doctor lifted the heavy tumor, he found what he was looking for: a mouth. The tumor, growing out of the child's mouth, had left a small opening large enough to insert a breathing tube. Doctors wrapped the baby's head and tumor in a large mask.

The amazing part is that beneath the heavy red mass Jordan's face was untouched and unaffected.

Although Jordan's facial bones and jaw had been pushed back and out of place, they were perfectly healthy. And like most babies, his bones were malleable. During the following weeks, his face slowly readjusted.

Now 2 months later, there is little evidence of this baby's amazing journey.

His mom hopes that he will be well enough to come home next week.

Baby Boom: Brooklyn Hospital Delivers 74 Babies In 2 Days

An unexplained baby boom left nurses at a Brooklyn hospital swamped and doctors scratching their heads last week after a record 74 newborns were delivered in just 48 hours.

The huge number of arrivals filled every one of the birthing center's 60 beds -- forcing Maimonides Medical Center to rush in off-duty staff and open an extra medical wing to deal with the overflow.

"It was incredible," said the Borough Park hospital's spokeswoman, Eileen Tynion.

"Our veteran staff members tell stories about seeing sudden surges of babies being born at the same time, but nothing like this.

"Once or twice every year, we see 65 babies born over 48 hours. This many has never been seen before, and there was nothing we could determine that caused it."

Moms-to-be started turning up in large numbers Tuesday morning, said Tynion.

Hospital chiefs ordered a first-floor intensive care unit which has been closed last fall to be re-opened after every bed of the fourth-floor maternity ward was filled.

"Somehow, everybody got the care they needed," said Tynion.

Though the rush had slowed, the baby boom continued yesterday, as the birth total since Tuesday afternoon reached 97. The hospital usually handles around 20 deliveries a day.

Closings of maternity wards at other area hospitals has increased pressure on Maimonides, which has the borough's biggest and busiest delivery suite.

Meet The 23-Month-Old Pool Shark

A New York toddler, who is still in diapers, has earned the reputation as a pool shark with a mean bank shot – even though he has to stand on a chair to reach the table.

Two-year-old Keith O'Dell Jr. from upstate New York is the youngest member of the American Pool Association.

He recently traveled to Las Vegas to put on a demonstration for the APA, the governing body of amateur pool.

Keith started playing pool on a child-size table, but has since moved up to a regulation table.

The O'Dells have no explanation for their son's success, but say he learned by watching his dad shoot 200 racks every night.

Mike Tyson's Daughter Passes Away

Mike Tyson's four-year-old daughter has passed away, after she accidentally caught her neck in a cord on a treadmill at her home yesterday.

The pre-schooler was hospitalized and put on life support yesterday when she was found with her neck wrapped in the cable of the exercise machine by her seven-year-old brother.

The boy got his mom from another room, and the woman freed the girl, called an ambulance and tried to revive her.

Tyson, who doesn't live in the Phoenix house, arrived yesterday afternoon from Las Vegas and was filmed by television news cameras entering the hospital where Exodus was being treated.

The family released this statement today:

"We are grateful for the tremendous outpouring of love and prayers from all over the world"

"There are no words to describe the tragic loss of our beloved Exodus. We ask you now to please respect our need at this very difficult time for privacy to grieve and try to help each other heal."

Police believe that either she slipped or put her head in the loop, but it acted like a noose, and was obviously unable to get herself off of it.

Our hearts go out to this family.

Featured Review: kokopax Classic Carrier

The Kokopax baby carrier was born from the simple design of the baby carriers your mom wore.

Now updated with a five-point safety harness, chic canvas materials and some practical accessories, the Kokopax carrier is a fabulous baby carrying option for the busy parent.

Weighing in at just 2.7lbs, this easy-to-use carrier was designed to offer a safe and comfortable ride for baby while you go about your daily routine.

On arrival, I was impressed by the care that has been taken to make sure that the carrier stays in it's pristine condition. Kokopax wraps all of their carriers in a cotton bag to protect them from the dust when not in use, just like a high-end handbag.

Additionally, a charming wooden button adorns the back pocket along with a matching wooden toy ring to hold your child's favorite plaything.

I use my Kokopax at least once a day to give my son a change of scenery. He loves being carted around in it and is happy to sit back and enjoy the view as I go about my daily chores.

Having him up on my back gives him the opportunity to see things he doesn't normally see when I am using a front carrier.

Even though the Kokopax was not made for hiking, like most framed carriers, it is a great choice for the park or mall. It's lightweight design and ability to evenly distribute your child's weight across you back makes it a comfortable, convenient way to transport your baby.

It's intelligible, practical design makes it an ideal choice for parents who want keep their baby happy while going about their day.

Additional features:

  • made with 100% cotton canvas
  • anodized aluminum frame
  • adjustable frame to fit individual user
  • padded waist support
  • handy storage pocket
  • kickstand for easy loading
  • fits in airline overhead bins
  • for use from 6 months to 2 years (or up to 35 pounds)
  • patent pending

Mel Gibson and Girlfriend Expecting a Baby

Just a month after debuting his girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva to the world, actor Mel Gibson has confirmed they are expecting a baby.

The Australian actor, who is in the middle of a multi-million dollar divorce from his estranged wife Robyn, confirmed rumours of the pregnancy during an interview on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno last night.

"This is true," the star said after Jay asked him to confirm the speculation that his new partner was pregnant.

The new baby will make 8 for the busy dad who already has seven children with Robyn, aged 10 to 26.

He then joked: "I guess I'm Octo-Mel." The actor gave away few details of his new baby, replying jokingly, “A human being, I think,” when Leno asked about the baby’s gender.

It is believed the mom-to-be, a Russian musician, is in her second trimester and the baby is due this fall.

The child will be the second for Oksana, who has a teenage son with British actor Timothy Dalton.

Robyn Gibson filed for divorce from her husband of 28 years last month, citing irreconcilable differences. She is expected to be awarded half of Gibson’s estimated $US900 million (£605 million) fortune.

Last night Gibson talked about the breakdown of his marriage, telling Leno: “I did a pretty good hatchet job on my marriage.”

The classy guy also revealed that he doesn't plan to marry his baby mama saying,

"Who would do it twice?"

Mike Tyson's 4-Year-Old Daughter In Critical Condition

Boxer Mike Tyson's 4-year-old daughter is on life support after she was found with her neck on a treadmill cable Monday, police said.

Exodus Tyson was found by her 7-year-old brother Miguel on a treadmill with the cable attached to the exercise machine at their Phoenix home, police Sgt. Andy Hill said, calling it a "tragic accident."

The boy told the girl's mother, who was in another room. She took the girl off the cable, called 911 and tried to revive her.

Responding officers and firefighters performed CPR on the girl as they rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she was in "extremely critical condition" and on life support, Hill said.

"Somehow she was playing on this treadmill, and there's a cord that hangs under the console — it's kind of a loop," Hill said. "Either she slipped or put her head in the loop, but it acted like a noose, and she was obviously unable to get herself off of it."

The former heavyweight champion had been in Las Vegas but flew to Phoenix immediately after learning of the accident.

CDC Offers Pool Etiquette Tips

As we head into the Summer The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is some tips on Pool Etiquette.

Oddly enough, their first and tip is - Do Not Pee In The Pool.

Although urine in the water probably will not cause swimmers to go to the emergency room, it causes "more of a respiratory, ocular irritation: the red puffy eyes or a cough, an itchy throat," said Michele Hlavsa, an epidemiologist in the division of parasitic diseases at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention."A big health message is not to urinate or pee in the water."

And it happens far more frequently than we would like to think.

In a survey of 1,000 U.S. adults conducted in April and May, 17 percent admitted relieving themselves in a swimming pool.

When swimmers have coughs or red, stinging eyes after emerging from the pool they usually dismiss those symptoms as the effects of chlorine, but their causes are something more organic.

Sweat or 'urinate' in the pool water combined with the chlorine creates chloramines, which causes the strange odor and the eye and respiratory irritations for swimmers, according to the CDC.

The survey released by Golodner's group, which advises the American Chemistry Council, found that:

  • 11 percent of the surveyed adults said they have swum with a runny nose
  • 7 percent with an exposed rash or cut
  • 1 percent when ill with diarrhea

The most common recreational water illness is spread through diarrhea. One of the most persistent problems is Cryptosporidium, a parasite that causes diarrhea and can be found in infected stools.

"With Crypto, if you have diarrhea, it's very watery," Hlavsa said. "It's not a formed stool sitting in the pool or floating on top. It could be very watery, and no one [in a pool] would know."

During the past two decades, Crypto has become one of the most common causes of waterborne illness.

Unlike E. coli and salmonella, Crypto can resist chlorine. In 2007, the parasite sickened more than 1,200 people who had visited recreational water facilities in Utah.

According to the CDC, if someone swallows water that has been contaminated with feces, he or she may become sick even if very little water is consumed.

Recreational water illnesses have been on the rise for the past two decades, according to the CDC. From 2005 to 2006, the agency reported 78 outbreaks of recreational water illnesses associated with swimming pools, water parks, hot tubs, lakes, rivers and oceans that affected 4,412 people and resulted in 116 hospitalizations and five deaths.

Here are tips to make sure the pool is clean:

  • Look at the pool to see whether it's clean and clear, and the drain is visible.
  • Listen for pool equipment, because the pool pumps and filters should make noise.
  • Feel the tiles and pool sides. They should not be sticky or slippery.
  • Beware of a strong chemical odor. A well-chlorinated pool has little odor.

Pool Etiquette

  • Don't swim when you have diarrhea
  • Avoid swallowing pool water
  • Shower before swimming
  • Wash your hands after using toilet or changing diapers
  • Take children on bathroom breaks or check diapers often
  • Change diapers in bathroom and not at poolside
