Toddler Rescued From Washing Machine Drum
A toddler got himself in quite the predicament yesterday while playing hide-and-seek with his mother in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province China.

The three-year-old's mother called emergency service after she found the little boy with his legs stuck in the washing machine's drum.

According to rescuers, the toddler was trapped for over an hour until several firefighters pulled the drum out of the machine and used a circular saw, just inches from the boy's legs, to cut him out of it.

Kodak Launches Photo Books With SMARTFIT Technology
In our family I'm the photo girl. I am that person that constantly has the camera out asking everyone to smile. I'm always afraid to miss a moment.

So this makes me that person who is constantly making photobooks to show off all of the pictures I have taken in a year, at an event or on a vacation.

When doing this I have a method. It has to be even, everyone must be included and it must be chronologically correct. I am a perfectionist when it comes to documenting our family's special moments, but it all takes time. Time I no longer have.

As we approach the end of the year I face the daunting task of organizing the 10,000 photos (not a joke) I have taken in 2010 into one neat book. I know that they will probably be expected from the grandparents and I really don't have a spare moment to get this done.

Enter Kodak's Smart Fit Technology. When I was contacted by the company a couple weeks ago and asked if I wanted to try out their new system, I jumped at the chance. Anything that could make the whole process easier is welcome.

To get started I loaded all 137 pictures that I wanted in my book into a file. From there I went to upload in my Kodak profile and highlighted every picture in the file - 375 Meg worth of photos (92 minutes of upload time) and started the upload.  This was fine with me as I was heading to bed, so I left the computer open and when I woke up everything was loaded ready to make the book.

I then selected the Smart Fit logo, the large book and asked it to start. In just a couple minutes all of the pictures I had loaded were organized on each page by event. I was impressed. Not just because of the organization, but because somehow, like magic, the Smartness knew to even my book out by including each one of my boys equally in all of the pages. Some had 3 pictures of one of my sons, but then 2 pages later it magically did the same for the other.

Because I am a micro-manager, I then went in and adjusted the zoom and positioning of each picture, but other than that it was ready to be printed. In literally less than 20 minutes my book was ready to be printed.

For those who would like to add captions, change the pages around or give each page a new background, it will take longer but not much longer. For me the hard part is figuring our where everything should go - Smart Fit did that for me.

Amazing Video: Almost Full Term Baby Tries to 'Escape' Mom's Belly!
This cool video of an almost full term baby inutero is catching some attention online.  It is video taped by a dad-to-be, while his pregnant partner is relaxing on the couch and her unborn baby rolls around in her stomach.

Every woman who has been pregnant has had a night where they are pretty sure their child is going to climb out of their belly sideways, but not all of us get it on tape.

Luckily, this couple did and it's very cool to watch!

Johnson & Johnson RECALLS Children’s Benadryl & Junior-Strength Motrin caplets
Johnson & Johnson has announced the recall of about four million packages of cherry- and grape-flavored Children’s Benadryl allergy tablets and about 800,000 bottles of junior-strength Motrin caplets.

The reason for the recall is vague, with the Benadryl website only offering this statement:
In consultation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), McNeil Consumer Healthcare, Division of McNEIL-PPC, Inc. has initiated a voluntary recall of all product lots of Children's BENADRYL® Allergy FASTMELT® Tablets, in cherry and grape flavors, that were distributed in the United States, Belize, Barbados, Canada, Puerto Rico, St. Martin, and St. Thomas and all product lots of Junior Strength MOTRIN® Caplets, 24 count, that were distributed in the United States.

This is a wholesale and retail level recall. No action is required by consumers or healthcare providers and consumers can continue to use the product. The recall was initiated after a review, conducted as part of McNeil's Comprehensive Action Plan, revealed insufficiencies in the development of the manufacturing process. There is no indication that the recalled products do not meet quality standards, and this recall is not being undertaken on the basis of adverse events.

Bonnie Jacobs, a company spokeswoman said, "Consumers can continue to use the product; they don’t have to take any action,” The action “is not being taken on the basis of adverse events” or safety issues.

RECALL: 90,000 Bassettbaby to Repair Drop-Side Cribs Due to Entrapment, Suffocation and Fall Hazards

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Bassett Furniture Industries, today announced a voluntary recall of about 90,000 Bassettbaby drop-side cribs with external plastic hardware because the cribs' drop-side rail can malfunction, detach or otherwise fail, causing part of the drop side to detach from the crib. When a drop-side rail partially detaches, it creates a space between the drop-side and the crib mattress. An infant or toddler's body can become entrapped in the space, which can lead to strangulation and/or suffocation. A child also can fall out of the crib. Drop-side incidents also can occur due to incorrect assembly and age-related wear and tear.

The firm and CPSC are aware of 18 reported incidents in which drop-sides malfunctioned or detached from the crib. No injuries were reported. In one of the incidents a child became entrapped between the mattress and the drop-side. In three of the incidents children fell out of the cribs. The firm also has received 154 reports of drop-side hardware breaking during shipment, assembly or use.

The recalled cribs are wood with a metal mattress support and have a drop side with external plastic hardware. The cribs were sold in a variety of finishes. A label is attached to the footboard or headboard with the names "Bassettbaby" or "Bassett Furniture Industries, Inc." as well as the model number, production date and other information. On some older models the manufacturer's name appears on a separate label.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled drop-side cribs and contact Bassettbaby at (800) 308-7485 between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday, or visit the firm's website at www.bassettbaby.com for a free kit that will immobilize the drop side. In the meantime, parents are urged to find an alternate, safe sleeping environment for the child, such as a bassinet, play yard or toddler bed depending on the child's age.

Kid Tested: VTech MobiGo
VTech's MobiGo is the company's new handheld device created for 3-8 year-olds. This touch screen edu-game is the next generation of handheld toys combining one of today’s hottest electronic features with important early learning skills.

To get started you will need to install 4 AA batteries into the back.  VTech has a special software that you should sync with your MobiGo to take advantage of their exclusive offers and to download some of their games. As an incentive, they are offering free downloads for a year to parents when they register their unit.

Once logged in, you have the option of checking your child's progress, changing your account or downloading a game from VTech's extensive list.

The memory on the device will only allow you to store about 3 downloaded games, but that can be increased to 10 if you buy an additional cartridge.

The only thing I don't like about this is that the downloaded games only appear JUST after the file transfer and will need to be re-transferred after every power-up. The only way to avoid this is to purchase the game storage card that I mentioned above as the device doesn't appear to have any long term memory. The bonus to this is that the card comes pre-loaded with 8 games.

The MobiGo does however come with a 'touch and learn' cartridge that has 6 games on it , each with 2 levels of difficulty.

Each game is designed to teach your child a new skill whether it's problem solving and numerology or including math, vocabulary, spelling and the alphabet.

The MobiGo has been a big hit with both my 23-month-old and my 5-year-old sons. Even though my youngest is too young to figure out how to work it, he enjoys playing with some of the downloaded games like keyboard jam and DJ beats as there is little skill involved just screen tapping.

For years my oldest son has had a thing with smartphones. He loves to play with them a pretend that he is sending e-mails or taking pictures. Because the MobiGo slides up like a smartphone to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard, he thinks he has his own mobile device fully loaded with fun things that he can do.

To further with our test we purchased the SHREK Forever After game(aged 4-6) for him and it has been a hit. This cartridge has 8 games and it uses the characters from the movie to teach spelling, shapes, colors and logic. Each game has a little cartoon to introduce it, which is cute and SHREK appears all of them. Kids can protect him from a flying witch that throws pumpkins,  test their skills at apple bowling and help SHREK and donkey navigate their way through a dark cave.

The MobiGo is a great on-the-go game that will offer hours of learning while your child plays. Their impressive line-up of learning games includes some of the most popular characters with the 3-8 age group. Disney Princesses, Cars, Toy Story 3, Tinkerbell, Dora and Ben 10 are just a few available for purchase.

The Elf on the Shelf ~ How Santa Really Knows Who’s Been Naughty and Nice!

How does Santa really know who’s been naughty and nice? The answer has finally been revealed in this ‘Santa approved’ book!

A wonderful Christmas tradition long enjoyed by one mom’s family has now successfully been put down on paper, after long hours of negotiating with Santa, so that other families can make this tradition theirs as well. How many times have little children questioned how Santa really knows if they’ve been good or bad? He can’t possibly be watching all the children everywhere!

As it turns out, Santa is able to send out a host of little elves every year to families that want to adopt them. The elves come and perch on shelves in living rooms and kitchens all through the land, and patiently watch what the little children of their adoptive families are up to. It’s thanks to these elves that Santa is able to find out who really has been naughty and who is definitely nice.

These delightful little elves hibernate in their packing boxes until a prospective family has adopted them. The elves arrive with a wonderful book describing this tradition, on which families can build to make it their own. It’s up to the children in the house to name the elf, and once it has a name it receives its Christmas magic! Children can then enter the name of their little elf on the elfontheshelf.com website and receive an adoption certificate from the North Pole!

Elves are not allowed to speak to the children, but it isn’t uncommon for parents to be able to send some messages to Santa, through these trusty elves. And there is only one simple rule, children mustn’t touch the elves, for if they do, the elf’s Christmas magic will disappear, and that wouldn’t be good at all!

Christmas is full of magic and delightful family traditions. The Elf on the Shelf is the perfect addition to wonderful family Christmases!  - Belinda, Staff Writer

Steve Nash Welcomes 3rd Child; Splits With Wife Same Day

Just hours after Steve Nash's wife Alejandra Amarilla gave birth on Friday to a seven pound, seven ounce baby boy named Matteo Joel Nash, the new dad released a statement to Life and Style magazine saying,
“I am very thankful and excited that we have a new son, Matteo Nash. Alejandra and the baby are doing fine. But this is a bittersweet moment for my wife and I; after five years, we are now in the process of dissolving our marriage. While we have lived separately for the past several months, we remain firmly committed to raising our children in the most positive, nurturing way possible. I want only good things for Ale going forward; right now, I’m focused on ensuring that our children understand how much they’re loved and adored by us as they continue to adjust to these changes.”

The couple, who has been together for nine years, are also parents to six-year-old twin daughters Lola and Bella.

While I get that the divorce announcement was imminent, I think it's unfortunate that they had to do it the day the baby arrived.

Mader Spinning Tops ~ Little whirling works of art!
There is something about a spinning top that just never gets old. Whether you’re a young one, still too small to do it yourself, watching someone spin the top, or advanced in years but young at heart, spinning tops are truly a toy for all!

Mader Kreiselmanufaktur in Austria was founded by Klaus and Margit Mader in 1991. Each one of their over 50 different types of spinning tops is carefully and exclusively hand-made in limited quantities by the small team of talented wood-turners at the Mader workshop. Wood used for the tops is native to Europe, and maple is most often the wood used for the tops that are brightly painted, whereas a combination of other woods is used for those tops left naturally colored. Each top carries the company’s trademark: a burn line running along the equator of the top.

Each top is rated from 1 to 6 in terms of difficulty, with tops like the ‘Tango’, a simple little top in 7 beautiful color variations, having a difficulty ranking of 1 and the ‘Thunderbolt’, often referred to as ‘Grandpa’s Top’, a more bullet shaped top, being the most difficult top that Klaus makes.

The combinations of different styles, difficulty ratings and color palettes seem endless. In this plethora of little spinning works of art, there is bound to be the perfect one for all those young and young at heart!  - Belinda, Staff Writer
