16 Last Minute Gift Ideas For Pre-Schoolers 3+
Kid Tested: Dinosaur Train InterAction Collection
Jim Henson's Dinosaur Train is a great show for pre-schoolers that 'celebrates the fascination that preschoolers have with both dinosaurs and trains, while encouraging basic scientific thinking skills as the audience learns about life science, natural history and paleontology'.

Introduced in August, Dinosaur Train's InterAction collection is one of the coolest concepts we have tested for pre-schoolers. Each of the characters features 'Smart Talk' Technology which allows them to speak to each other.

On top of making their own noises and sound effects Morris, Buddy, Tiny, Tank, Ned and Boris will chat, sing and share information about their specie if put in proximity of each other.

For our test we received Buddy, Tank and Boris. While all 3 have their own special features they all stomp if you walk them on a floor or table, chomp if you put your finger in their mouth and have poseable heads, legs, arms, and tail.

My boys love the show, but they love these dinosaurs more.  Having them sing together is a big hit as is hearing them roar.  Their interactability and personalities make them more than a toy, they are like a friend.

Thank you to Learning Curve for providing us with the samples for this review.  Tank and Boris were kept in their boxes during our test and then donated to a local church Toy Drive for Christmas.

CPSC Set To Ban Certain Models Of Drop-Side Cribs
In the last 3 years the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CSPC) has recalled 11 million Drop-Side cribs due to entrapment, suffocation and Fall Hazards. According to them  these cribs have been responsible for infant 32 deaths, 'almost all of which resulted when a baby's head or neck became entrapped after a malfunction of the drop-side crib mechanism'.

The new rules wil make it illegal to sell a crib with sides that drop down or those that do not pass strict tests on the durability of slats and mattresses.

They will also make it illegal to sell second-hand cribs, since most will be unable to meet the tougher safety standards.

Commissioner Thomas Moore of the CPSC, in a statement Wednesday, called the new law an "important step to providing a much needed added measure of safety to our young children's sleeping environment.
"The benefits of our action today will be saving the lives of innocent babies," he said.
Even though the law goes into effect June 2011, hotels and childcare centers will have two years to replace existing cribs with new ones.

The new regulations, which now gives the United States the toughest crib standards in the world, are being welcomed by consumer groups.
"Parents and caregivers should have peace of mind when they leave their baby in a crib that their baby will be safe. For too long that has not been the case," said Rachel Weintraub, director of product safety at the non-profit Consumer Federation of America.
"We congratulate CPSC for shepherding this strong and much needed consumer protection," she said.

16 Gift Ideas for the Newest Member of The Family - 0-12 Months!
As we count down to the big day one of the hardest age groups to buy for is 0-1, mostly because the skill development in children under the age of 1 varies greatly from child to child.

The list I have put together isn't filled with new releases, but tried and true products that have either worked for our family or have gotten rave reviews from other moms in our community.

1. Best EVER Mat($50) -  2.  Cloud B Turtle($23)  3.  Activity Bear from Woodours  4.  Sophie! ($18) 5.  LeapFrog My Pal Scout/Violet ($17) 6.  Skip Hop Treetop Friends Night and Day Discovery Toy($15)  7.  Kushies Zolo Boa Stacker ($40) 8.  Skip Hop Animal Chime Ball($13)

Many of the toys in this category have been favorites in our household.  The Best Ever Mat is a popular choice among new moms because it doubles as a comfy playspace and adorable friend.  The Cloud B Turtle is a great light for late night feedings and changes and Sophie the Giraffe is a staple for teething babies.  Kushies Zolo Boa Stacker is a favorite for it's soft, bright, easy to hold rings.  LeapFrog's Scout/Violet dolls are my go-to gift for a new baby because they are both very cute, incredibly customizable and easy to use.  The Woodours is a new line of infant toys that are created with different patterns and textures that is sure to appeal to all your child's senses.

1. Playskool Ball Popper($17) 2.  Infantino Color and Shapes Mover Cow 3. Deluxe Miniplay Cube by Anatex($109) 4. Vtech Sit to Stand Baby Learning Walker ($50)  5.  Fisher Price Laugh & Learn Learning Home($90) 6. Fisher-Price Peek-a-Blocks IncrediBlock($120)
7.   Tiny Love Developlay Activity Center ($32) 8.  Fisher-Price Peek a Block Train($30)

For babies 6 months and up we love toys that offer lots of play options.  Number one on our list is the Fisher-Price Laugh N Learn House. This has been a BIG hit at our house.  We bought ours 5 years ago and my 2 boys still play with it almost every day.  Also on the list by Fisher-Price is the Peek a Blocks Train.  This colorful train will travel across your room while moving the blocks in the back up and down.  Infantino's Cow is a cute toy for kids 9 months and up.  It has 3 play modes and moves and moos if your child gets the shape in the right spot.  The Tiny Love Developlay offers play on both sides from 6 months+.  It is another toys that was popular with both of my boys.  In fact at the age of 2, my youngest still pulls it out to hear it's music and spin the smiley face.   Popular with my girlfriends, Playskool's Ball Popper will keep you little one giggling and crawling to retrieve their balls.  Both the Miniplay Cube and Incrediblock offer 5 sides of play and are great for a child that can sit or is learning to stand.

Exciting news for Jennifer Connelly and husband Paul Bettany! A rep for the couple confirmed to US Magazine that they are expecting their first child together.

Oddly enough, Jennifer's growing bump was apparent when the pair walked the red carpet for The Tourist premiere last week, but it went unnoticed by the media, possibly because of her patterned dress.

The new baby will join Jennifer's children 7-year-old son Stellan and 13-year-old son Kai (from her previous relationship with photographer David Dugan).

Kid Tested: Beaba's New Nightlight - Pixie!
For 21 years  Beaba has been known for their ecstatically pleasing, clever baby designs.

New for Fall, the French company has introduced one of the cutest products to date - Pixie!  This modern looking nighlight will undoubtedly be your child's trusty companion from birth straight up to their school years.

In the nursery it's soft light can assist you through late night feedings and diaper changes and is even safe enough to be placed in the crib with your child if they need reassurance.

Beaba uses a soft plastic for the hat that is not meant to be chewed on, but can be if your child does and a non-heat emitting LED to light the base of the lamp.  Whether it's been on for 10 minutes or 5 hours, Pixie doesn't heat up, making it safe for little hands.

As you child gets older and they need to navigate through the dark house to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, Pixie's hat can be used as a handle for easy transportation.

For the last couple weeks my boys have sharing Pixie at night.  We put it in my youngest's(23 months) crib until he goes to sleep and then transfer it into our oldest's room for use in the middle of the night.  To keep it charged all night we leave it lit on the base and my son just grabs it when he needs to use the bathroom at 3am.

Because we travel a lot, Pixie will also come in handy in the middle of the night while at a hotel or on the very dark cabin of a cruiseboat and it won't take up much room in our suitcase because it is so compact.

I highly recommend this light for kids of all ages. It is responsibly designed to be used from birth and up, it's BPA-Free, and it has 2 light settings.  Once again, Beaba has created a product that is both practical and convenient.
