Mom Gives Birth To Quintuplets in South Carolina
Wholly Multiples Batman!!! Does anyone just have one baby anymore?? There is a boom in mega multiples lately with a South Carolina mom adding to the stats.
Friday at Palmetto Health Richland's Storks' Landing was a special day for Temekia Harris and Ivan Smith of Columbia, who became parents to a healthy set of quintuplets.Hospital officials say Temekia Harris and Ivan Smith of Columbia became the proud parents of a set of boy quintuplets.
Under the care of Doctor Anthony Gregg and Doctor Alfredo Gei with Maternal Fetal Medicine division at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Department of OB/GYN, the boys and their mother are recovering well.
Born on July 27, at Palmetto Health Richland Stork's Landing, the quintuplets whose names are not final include:
• Baby A, 2 pounds, 3.1 ounces, 13.5 inches long, born at 8:27 a.m.
• Baby B, 2 pounds, 2.9 ounces, 13 inches long born at 8:27 a.m.
• Baby C, 1 pound, 6 ounces, 11.75 inches long born at 8:28 a.m.
• Baby D, 1 pound, 14 ounces, 13.75 inches long born at 8:28 a.m.
• Baby E, 2 pounds, 6 ounces, 14 inches long, born at 8:29 a.m.
The boys are just the fifth set of quintuplets born in the state in the last three decades.
My guess is that these babies arrived at about 28-29 weeks. No gestation was given or whether or not fertilty was used. I think it's a safe assumption that these are not natural quints. That part would have been written in the headline if that were the case...
